NCCP workshops are designed to meet the needs of all types of coaches, from the first-time coach to the head coach of a national team. The NCCP is the recognized national standard for coach training and certification in Canada. As part of the program, all coaches are trained in ethical decision-making and sport safety. Since 1997, the emphasis of the NCCP has been on developing competent coaches – an exciting step towards helping them to become more effective and have a more meaningful impact on an athlete’s experience. Each year, more than 50,000 coaches take an NCCP workshop and since it began, more than 1 million coaches have participated in the program, making it one of Canada’s largest adult education programs. While continuing to equip coaches with the tools they need to become successful community leaders, the program itself has undergone a number of changes in recent years. In response to an extensive evaluation, the Coaching Association of Canada has adapted the NCCP to fit today’s coaching environment. Among these important changes has been a shift in emphasis from “what a coach knows” to “what a coach can do”. This transformation to a competency/outcomes-based approach has been a key factor in the re-development of the program.

Canada and the NCCP check out their website. The NCCP is developed and implemented through the combined efforts of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Governments, the National, Provincial and Territorial Sport Governing bodies and the Provincial and National Coaching Associations of Canada. The NCCP is a five level Program designed to train and further educate coaches across Canada. It promotes and develops excellence in coaching and provides coaches at all levels with a systematic way to improve their knowledge and skills in the theoretical, technical and practical aspects. Levels 1 to 3 certify coaches as competent leaders for school, community and club sports programs. Level 4 and 5 represent the top level of professional development and prepare coaches for leadership roles in national and international sport. After completing all three components at each level, coaches are granted official recognition of their accomplishment - Certification. Theory The theory courses are basic courses to broaden the coaches' education. Topics such as leadership and communication, growth and development, psychology of sport, skill analysis, sport safety and training are covered in depth from level 1 upwards. At level 1 to 3 coaches are required to participate in all sessions and meet the minimum standards for the workbook. NCCP courses in Saskatchewan List Technical Technical courses apply coaching principles to a particular sport. Skills, drills, training methods, strategy and tactics, detection and correction of errors plus specific psychological preparation are some of the topics covered in this component. Practical Evaluation Now the coach takes their acquired knowledge and applies it to the real coaching environment. The additional experience gained from a coaching involvement will produce the desire for more information found in higher level courses. Study Program Levels 4 and 5 consist of an applied study program of 20 tasks, which can be completed through full time residence at a National Coaching Institute http://www.coach.ca/nci or through a combination of home study and technical courses. For further information on the level 4/5 Tasks, contact the National Coaching Association. Please note: Level 3 certification is a prerequisite for all Level 4/5 Tasks. Coaches wishing to receive credit for participating must receive prior approval from their National Sport Organization. National Coaching Certification Program Model for Rifle Shooting
